Two Dimensional Transfer Chute Analysis Using a Continuum Method
نویسندگان
چکیده
The performance of transfer chutes is vital to the productivity of conveyor belt systems in the bulk solids industry yet no traditional design method is able to reliably predict the flow characteristics. The discrete numerical method has come to be regarded as the primary tool for particle flow modelling, but many design engineers in industry may not be aware that continuum methods are also suitable for some types of chute analysis. This paper reports an investigation into a continuum model based on kinetic theory as an alternative to the discrete element method for basic transfer chute analysis. Fluent software has been used to perform two-dimensional modelling of chutes and the result is compared to traditional design methods. The conclusions suggest that continuum models may have an important part to play in the future of chute design.

Isogeometric Topology Optimization of Continuum Structures using an Evolutionary Algorithm
Topology optimization has been an interesting area of research in recent years. The main focus of this paper is to use an evolutionary swarm intelligence algorithm to perform Isogeometric Topology optimization of continuum structures. A two-dimensional plate is analyzed statically and the nodal displacements are calculated. The nodal displacements using Isogeometric analysis are found to be ...
متن کاملThree-dimensional elasticity solution for vibrational analysis of thick continuously graded sandwich plates with different boundary conditions using a two-parameter micromechanical model for agglomeration
An equivalent continuum model based on the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach was employed to estimate the effective constitutive law for an elastic isotropic medium (i.e., the matrix) with oriented straight carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method was an efficient and accurate numerical tool for discretizing equations of motion and for implementing vari...
متن کاملOn the Six Node Hexagon Elements for Continuum Topology Optimization of Plates Carrying in Plane Loading and Shell Structures Carrying out of Plane Loading
The need of polygonal elements to represent the domain is gaining interest among structural engineers. The objective is to perform static analysis and topology optimization of a given continuum domain using the rational fraction type shape functions of six node hexagonal elements. In this paper, the main focus is to perform the topology optimization of two-dimensional plate structures using Evo...
متن کاملThree dimensional static and dynamic analysis of thick plates by the meshless local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) method under different loading conditions
In this paper, three dimensional (3D) static and dynamic analysis of thick plates based on the Meshless Local Petrov-Galerkin (MLPG) is presented. Using the kinematics of a three-dimensional continuum, the local weak form of the equilibrium equations is derived. A weak formulation for the set of governing equations is transformed into local integral equations on local sub-domains by using a uni...
متن کاملStress Transfer Modeling in CNT Reinforced Composites using Continuum Mechanics (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Because of the substantial difference in stiffness between matrix and nanotube in CNT composite, the stress transfer between them controls their mechanical properties. This paper investigates the said issue, analytically and numerically, in axial load using representative volume element (RVE). The analytical model was established based on the modified Cox’s shear lag model with the use of some ...
